Master Bedroom Bed Side Tables

At the top of my "must have" list for the mini master makeover was more folded clothing storage.   The first step was getting a larger dresser which I shared last week.  Next step, bed side tables with storage.

These bed side tables are another great find by my mom.  She is my personal furniture shopper.  :) Thanks, Mom!

Not sure where she got these but they are great.  And weird.  The wood is not super smooth.  It has these strange indentions in it.  They are actually considered small dressers so there is tons of storage space.

Before.

I decided to paint them instead of stain to match the dresser.  Matchy, matchy is not a design tactic I practice.  The room is in need of a little pop of color so I went with a light blue that is in our bedding.   Its a pretty contrast with the navy and white curtains and the newly gray walls.  Also, there were some problems with the wood.  The top pieces of wood were coming unglued so all of that had to be glued, pressed and filled to create a smooth top.  Other than that, the dressers are in good condition.  The original hardware was painted a soft iron to coordinate with the new hardware of the large dresser.

It is nice to have a place to store more of my folded clothes and on Blittle's side, I have our extra bed sheets and pillow cases stowed away.  They turned out really pretty and are the perfect size for us.

The master bedroom mini makeover is almost done.  There is new bedding, bed side tables, dresser, curtains and wall color.  Now I need to get some decor and art on the walls as well as figure out what I want to do with the headboard.  Our current headboard was my first thing to build from scratch.  I built it for our New Orleans home and I do like it.  BUT when we moved to this house the headboard doesn't fit in between the two windows on the wall with the bed.  I built it oversized to compete with the 12-15ft tray ceilings and large wall in our NOLA bedroom.  It just isn't working for me here.  So do I sell the headboard and build or buy something else?  Do I keep it and just deal?  I haven't made up my mind yet.

The entire makeover will be revealed soon!  The bathroom, too!  We are so close to being done.  I can't wait!

Green & Brass End Tables

Every piece I makeover, I enjoy.  I have a passion for paints and stains and how some elbow grease, sometimes a lot of it, can totally transform an outdated piece.  If you have toured my house, you know I have a fondness for neutrals, soft blues and navy.  The majority of my clients are the same.  Whites, whites with glazing, creams, grays and walnut stains are popular color choices.  They are all beautiful choices but when I have a client come along that requests a bright color, I get a little extra giddy.  I love painting colors I don't normally use.

And its Friday already.  Again.  When I was a teacher, Friday meant I had survived another week and summer vacation was that much closer.  Now, Friday means another week has flown by and somehow vanished before I knew it.

Hello, all!  I know its been a while.  Sorry.  Things have been busy but I didn't finish a project to post last week therefore I had nothing to blog about.  And if I am being totally honest, the freakishly cold weather got the best of me and I have been hibernating a little.

Painted, Distressed, Glazed Dresser & End Tables

It is ridiculously cold again.  Ugh!  I am ready to migrate farther South.  My productivity depends on the weather and not being able to get as much done as I would like, is irritating.  Plus, I like being outside, working on pieces in the driveway and be able to open the shop up but I can't do that with these ridiculous temperatures and north wind.  Yikes.  This really has been one of the coldest winters I can remember.  It hasn't let up and I think I might be going crazy from it,  Is that possible?  Going crazy from cold weather?

Even with the bad weather the past few weeks, I was able to stay on schedule with the next project.  A beautiful Ethan Allen dresser and end tables were brought to me for a face lift.  The pieces were in great condition and were pretty as is, but looked a little dated.  The client wanted them refinished to look like my grandmother's dresser that I use as a buffet.  These were perfect for this type of transformation.  The dresser and end tables have beautiful details and edges for the glaze to highlight.  I love this makeover.

Y'all.  Someone please tell me where January went?!  Seriously!  What happened to it?

A few weeks ago I told y'all about my deal of the year so far.  The $75 Ikea couch.  It came with a white cover that I tried to dye.  There were some problems.  I thought there might be since the fabric was older and had some stains.  Dye is cheap so I wanted to at least try.  My goal was to get a light blue color but it ended up looking like splotchy denim.  Not really the look I was going for.

So yesterday, I ventured into Houston and got a new cover at Ikea.  A little more expensive than dye but the fabric is a better quality than the basic white cover and the color is perfect.

An Update, an Announcement and a Video

Happy Saturday, y'all!  I hope everyone had a great week and has a fun, relaxing day planned.

I am off to spin class this morning then working the rest of the day.  I know the blog has been quiet the past few weeks but I have been focused on furniture (and boats) and I have been exhausted.  Last week, I only made it past 8:30 PM one night...embarrassing I know.  All the other nights I fell asleep watching TV at some ridiculously early time.  Another reason I haven't posted much is because several of my current projects are Christmas presents and I can't show them to you yet.

Today I am going to show you my end tables in the guest room.  Hopefully the guest room will be finished soon and I can reveal the entire room!  The theme for the room is navy and white.  I want it to have a light, bright, comfortable feel for our guests and a classic look that will last.

Overflowing with Thankfulness....and Furniture

What a week!   I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday with friends and family.  My husband and I traveled to Southeast Texas Thanksgiving day to see my family, then traveled to central Texas on Saturday to visit his family.  For black Friday, I stayed home and worked.  I hate shopping so staying up super late, standing in line, and risking my life is not for me.

It was a big, BIG week for Fisherman's Wife Furniture!  I was featured by Furniture Flippin' on Wednesday (Read post here) and then my guess post for Remodelaholic was published on Saturday (Read that post here).  I am extremely thankful for both of these companies recognizing my (and my husband) hard work and creativity and helping me grow my business.  There are not enough "thank you"s to anyone that spreads the word about Fisherman's Wife Furniture!

Hi all!  I hope you had a great weekend.  We had a pretty relaxing weekend around here.  I had planned to work through  the weekend but the weather was so beautiful and I had so many personal things I needed to get done, work was put on hold.  I have posted several new items on the "For Sale" page so be sure to go check those out.

Today, I am going to tell you about a precious baby shower gift I did!  A friend of mine that I have known my entire life married a girl I have known for years.  They are now having a baby!  I wanted to do something special for them and go beyond the registry list.  Now, for those of you who don't know, straying from the registry is tricky.  If you have ever had a registry for a wedding or baby, you know what I am talking about.  Those gifts where people try to get you something special and be creative by getting you something not on the list but you have no idea what to do with the present.....or worse....you don't know what it is  :o   So I decided to reach out to the husband to get some ideas of what they needed and the present could be a huge surprise for the wife.  Well, funny story....

Recent Before & Afters

I finally found a few good dressers!  Dressers are a popular request from clients and I am always on the hunt for them.  Last week I came across two that had great character and structure.  Neither were the right size for any of my clients so I got to be creative with them.  Here are their before & after shots.

I love this color.  I have never used it before and with the glaze over it....perfection. Sadly, the pictures just do not capture the color correctly.  It is such a pale sweet color.

This week I also put some end tables up for sale.  These are our end tables but after moving the living room furniture around they just don't work for us anymore.  I refinished the clear coat on the tops and I freshened up the paint and they are as good as new.  They need a good home!

Our Home - Main Living Areas

I honestly didn't know what to write about this morning and I promised myself I wouldn't go more than two days without blogging so I decided to give you a tour of our home.  It shows our love of the water and is filled with furniture I made or refinished and things we have inherited over the years.  Our style is what I call coastal casual. 

I am going to do this in several parts so I don't have one super long post and it will give me something to write about over the next few days.  I hope y'all enjoy!

Just some background on our house: We live in a rent house in New Orleans near Lake Pontchartrain.  My husband's job moved us here in January from Texas and since our time here is limited we felt renting was the best option for us.  As most of you know, renting has some great advantages but there are some huge disadvantages when trying to decorate and making it your own.  I have tried to make the least amount of nail holes as possible and I have tried to bring in color with accessories since I can't paint the walls.
