DIY Dining Room Table

Happy Wednesday!

Yesterday, I told y'all about my office and how messy it was (read about it here).  It is coming along great.  Organizing and purging is extremely time consuming but I made great progress.  I am still not sure about my furniture placement but you can see the top of my dresser and desk!  Also, the closet is now clean and organized.  Hopefully, I can get it finished in the next week.

Today, I want to tell y'all about the dining room table saga.  I used to have a little round table and four chairs I refinished while we were living in our tiny, Texas house.  We used the set in New Orleans but I sold it when we moved.  It only sat four people and I wanted something bigger or at least have a leaf so more space was an option.

I found an old Ethan Allen round table with a leaf and 4 chairs when we were back in Texas.  Perfect.  As soon as we closed on the house, I started working on the table.  The table top had too much damage to stain so the entire thing had to be painted.

At the time, my design was based on navy and turquoise.  I thought a turquoise table would be fun.

This is the only picture I have of it that color.  The pillows are in case the lantern falls from the ceiling.  The first week after I installed it, I was really nervous the hook couldn't handle the weight and it was going to plummet from the ceiling at any moment.

Loved the color.  Hated how it looked in the house.  So back to the drawing board.  I changed my colors to bird's egg and navy.  The lantern is a bird's egg color so I wanted something that would coordinate but not be too matchy.  I have a pillow with a coral on it and I love the pop of color.  Blittle and I agreed on coral.  So I painted it coral.  Loved the color, liked it in the house but the paint didn't cure correctly.  I sanded down and painted with a different brand of paint.  Again, didn't cure correctly.

Here it is in coral.

I am not loving the coral in the space.  I like it but I don't LOVE it.    Also, the way the legs are, it is hard to fit 2 chairs next to each other on the long sides.  Right now I have benches but I would like to have a table that I can fit 2 chairs.  So what did I decide to do?

I built a table.  All by myself.  True story.

I fell in love with this Ana White plan years ago.  It was to be built for our NOLA home but I never did it.  The legs were purchased and I still didn't build the table.  I was intimidated at the time and didn't think I could do it.  Now, two years later, I have done countless furniture makeovers, repairs, remodeled a kitchen, and built another fence.  I am no longer intimidated.  Let's do this.

Here are a few photos of the table completed and in the house.

Two large dining chairs can fit next to each other on the long side!

LOVE IT!  The size is perfect for our little bay window dining area.  I am hoping to have the dining room reveal in the next few weeks.  All that's left for the space are curtains and whatever art/pictures I am going to hang over the buffet.  I can't wait to have the space finished!
