Friday Update ~10/23/2015

I am here! I promise!  Things have gone quiet on the blog and much of my social media.  Just not feeling it lately plus I have been unbelievably busy.  This post started last Thursday and was supposed to be finished for Friday but I couldn't make it happen.  Even my friends were starting to wonder.  We see each other every few days usually (we all live less than a mile or two from each other) and I didn't see them for over a week.  I refuse to complain because I am so grateful for all the work but not going to lie...I am tired.

The past three weeks have been extremely productive even if the blog wasn't updated!  We went out of town for a wedding, finished the fire pit area, I hung the shelves in the bathroom (LOVE THEM), rearranged our living room layout, bought new chairs, finished/started several FWF projects, cleaned and reorganized the shop, my parents came over one evening, my mom visited a day, and Blittle's parents visited several days.  And those are the highlights.

A quick pic of us looking like fancy adults at the wedding.

MASTER BATHROOM

I do not have pictures of the bathroom shelves.  For now on, no more bathroom pictures.  The kitchen I kept mostly hidden and only showed certain parts until it was finished.  The final result, for the most part, was a surprise. The bathroom has been blogged about a lot and the surprise factor is out.  Now that we are down to the finishing touches, I want to wait until it is complete to post more pictures.  There needs to be a few unknown things for the big reveal.  :)

FIREPIT

The actual construction part of the fire pit and side yard is complete. I built some benches last weekend and we hung patio lights.  I still need to decorate to make it feel "homey" and set up the cooking area.  Blittle wants to build a smoker as well.  Still lots to do but we can enjoy the space while it is in progress.

FURNITURE

These chairs went home.

I will get after pictures later.  They are now a gorgeous blue and covered with new fabric.

This vanity is finished.

Again, I'll get photos of it in it's new home next week.

I built this cool out door table out of an old fence gate and legs the owner got from the Galveston Historic Foundation Store.

Now I am working on our entertainment center.  My mom bought it and wants it navy.  The table to the dining set she bought will get its makeover next week and I have two end tables to refurbish.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.  It is supposed to rain A LOT here over the next few days because of Hurricane Patricia (No, it is not hitting us but the rain will make its way to Texas).  The weather person is saying 100% chance over the weekend.  Pretty sure its going to rain.

Hopefully with all the rain, I can get my blog posts for the furniture before and afters done today or this weekend.  There will be a post about the fire pit are and the benches I built soon, too.  Another goal is to get all the quarter round installed in the bathroom and start painting the trim.

Master Bedroom Bed Side Tables

At the top of my "must have" list for the mini master makeover was more folded clothing storage.   The first step was getting a larger dresser which I shared last week.  Next step, bed side tables with storage.

These bed side tables are another great find by my mom.  She is my personal furniture shopper.  :) Thanks, Mom!

Not sure where she got these but they are great.  And weird.  The wood is not super smooth.  It has these strange indentions in it.  They are actually considered small dressers so there is tons of storage space.

Before.

I decided to paint them instead of stain to match the dresser.  Matchy, matchy is not a design tactic I practice.  The room is in need of a little pop of color so I went with a light blue that is in our bedding.   Its a pretty contrast with the navy and white curtains and the newly gray walls.  Also, there were some problems with the wood.  The top pieces of wood were coming unglued so all of that had to be glued, pressed and filled to create a smooth top.  Other than that, the dressers are in good condition.  The original hardware was painted a soft iron to coordinate with the new hardware of the large dresser.

After.

It is nice to have a place to store more of my folded clothes and on Blittle's side, I have our extra bed sheets and pillow cases stowed away.  They turned out really pretty and are the perfect size for us.

The master bedroom mini makeover is almost done.  There is new bedding, bed side tables, dresser, curtains and wall color.  Now I need to get some decor and art on the walls as well as figure out what I want to do with the headboard.  Our current headboard was my first thing to build from scratch.  I built it for our New Orleans home and I do like it.  BUT when we moved to this house the headboard doesn't fit in between the two windows on the wall with the bed.  I built it oversized to compete with the 12-15ft tray ceilings and large wall in our NOLA bedroom.  It just isn't working for me here.  So do I sell the headboard and build or buy something else?  Do I keep it and just deal?  I haven't made up my mind yet.

The entire makeover will be revealed soon!  The bathroom, too!  We are so close to being done.  I can't wait!

White & Brass Modern/Art Deco Dresser

Hey, Hey.  I hope everyone had a great weekend.  Friday, I took the day off to hang out with my brother and sister in law.  They made the drive over to visit for the day!  She starts her new job today (good luck) along with many of my other teacher friends beginning the new school year...already.  Where did summer go?  Saturday was filled with work and so was much of Sunday.  Tons of projects going on around here.

There is so much to share with y'all this week!  Three dressers were updated recently and today I am sharing the first makeover with you.

This dresser had a horrible paint job.  Globs, drips, obvious brush strokes were all present.  And lets not even talk about that color.  Ew!

Friday Update ~ 08/14/2015

Do y'all ever have weeks when you just can't get in the grove and be productive?  I had two of those in a row.  Yuck.  Then all of a sudden this week, I was on.  I mean, really on.  Things got done this week and it felt good.  I had help though....my mom worked with me two days this week.  Having two set of hands working really makes a difference.  :)

FURNITURE

Many of you know that my parents have been living in Germany the past year.  Now that they are back in the States, my mom is trying to get some projects done.  She has been using a mix of furniture for years and now she is wanting refinish or paint the pieces she likes, and replace the pieces she doesn't love.  I mentioned I had a dining set in my storage unit and things snowballed from there. This week the buffet was stripped, sanded, prepped for new stain, stained, and clear coated!  It is drying today so tomorrow I'll put the pulls and doors back on.  Here is a sneak peek:

Friday Update ~ 08/07/2015

Hey, hey.  Another week has flew by and somehow it is August already.  AHH!  Blittle and I both have been dealing with major sinus headaches since we got back from the trip.  It has killed my productivity.  Apparently, I am now allergic to Texas and need to live in the Caribbean full time.  HA!

Read about our Antigua vacation adventure:  Part 1 is about our time on a sailboat and Part 2 is all about the resort.

Friday Update ~ 07/17/2015

So I really have nothing to share with you this week.  Hahaha.  I did a lot.  There just isn't much to show for it.

MASTER BATHROOM

I cleaned it.  And used it.  That's all that happened in there.  No progress this week.

FURNITURE

The french provincial dressers were delivered to their new home.  Once they completely cure and she decorates, I'll do a blog post. Here is a quick pic of one.  I love the white and brass.

Friday Update ~ 07/10/2015

Y'all know when the blog gets quiet it means I am super busy.  The past two weeks have been exhausting but I have gotten so much done.

FURNITURE

I built custom end tables and a coffee table for a client.  They turned out great.  I will be doing an entire post on them soon but here is a quick pic of the coffee table in its new home looking gorgeous.

Purple & Grey Nursery Furniture

I have a great furniture makeover to share!  These pieces were delivered at Thanksgiving and now the nursery is set up and that sweet baby is here.

The client found the dresser at an estate sale and the bed was hers when she was a baby.  The bookcase some how did not get a before picture but I did paint it too.  It was built by one of her friends.  They are heavy, solid wood, and in great shape.  She chose a finish I have never done before and I love it!

The Skiff Bed

As the name of my blog suggests, I am a fisherman's wife and if you have been a reader for a while, you know that fishing, boats and the water are a big part of our life along with updating our home.  To take it a step further with our DIY lifestyle, my husband and I have built several boats together over the years.  (I am still trying to get him to guest blog about the boat build)

Many of you have seen our dock pictures with the boat on the lift.  That is our second boat to build together and is our personal boat.

Friday Update - 02/20/2015

And it is Friday again.  This week was extremely productive and I am looking forward to doing my tile work today!

FURNITURE:

The baby furniture is done and will go home tomorrow.  I really like the color the client chose for their baby boy nursery.  The big bedroom set has a few pieces prepped for paint and will be put in the paint booth when the nursery furniture is picked up.

Friday Update - 02/13/2015

Happy Friday the 13th!  I almost forgot about this post.  Oopsy.  It is 5:38 am, Friday morning and I am just now typing.  :)

FURNITURE:

I finished up the dining room table and it went home this week.  It is so pretty!  When the owners get it in the house and set up (it was broken down so it was easier to transport and refinish) I'll have them take pictures for me to share with all of y'all.

Friday Update & Demo Day

Hey guys.  One of my goals for 2015 is to be more consistent in my posts.  I know.  I know.  You have heard it before.  This time I am starting slow.  Instead of making a broad goal that is hard to track, I am starting with small steps.  The first one is to do a Friday Update.

My main problem with the blog is finding time.  It is extremely time consuming to take and edit pictures. Many times, I don't like the first round of pictures so I go back and take more.  Also, I over analyze and take too long writing posts.  My high school English teacher's voice is constantly in my head.  "You are starting sentences with "I" too much" "The word "that" isn't necessary here" "You are using too many conjunctions.  Rewrite the sentence without so, but, and, etc"  Knowing people read my writing scares me.  I proofread.  Reread.  Rewrite.  Change up.  Read again.  And after all that it is still a grammar nightmare.  I taught math.  My writing skills have always been lacking.  One post takes me hours sometimes.

DIY Adirondack Chairs

***A one year update is at the end of this post - 6/22/2015***

Hi.  My chairs are finished!  (Insert happy dance here)  All 6 adirondack chairs are built and stained.
