How to Cut a Screw

After several years of furniture and home updates, I have finally taken the time to learn how to cut a screw.  I have tons of them.  They come with original hardware and new hardware packages usually have two screw sizes included.  I have kept most of the screws I come across, new and old.  Problem is making them the length I need them.  Until now.

I have a big bedroom set that has almost done.  The new hardware had the usual two sizes to choose from.  The original and short screws in the new pack are too short.  The long screws in the new pack are too long.  So I went to the know all Google and started searching for info on how to cut a screw.  It is so easy.

All you need is:

Electrical Pliers
Screw Driver

Thats it!

To cut a screw you find the coordinating size hole and open pliers so the the holes align.  Most hardware screws are 8-32.

Screw in to the desired length.

When you have it at the correct length, squeeze the pliers closed.  This part is hard and takes quite a bit of effort.  Closing them clips off the unwanted length.  Then you are done.

Now you have custom length screws.  These pliers do not hurt the threads like other tools can.  Every screw I have shorten have been used without any problems.

I hope everyone has a great week!  Friday Updates will start back this week!  Be sure to check back.
